The Irish Brigade (69th New York Volunteers) commanded by General Meagher advances to the relief of the 9th Massachusetts Volunteers at the Battle of Gaines' Mill, Virginia. The 9th was also an Irish Regiment and carried a distinctive green regimental flag, very different from those used by the Irish Brigade.
